My Cochlear Implant Journey with Carrie Spangler

Roaring 2020 and Happy New Year

The Roaring 20s and the New Year brings about new meaning as I experience this holiday season with an “newbie” cochlear implant. I am not going to lie; it has been a ROARING challenge to hear through the Christmas and New Year Holiday.

Birthday Wishes

December is a month of celebrations in our house!

We celebrate the greatest gift of Christmas, we celebrate 4 generations of December birthdays (my mom, my grandma who is celebrating in heaven, my daughter, and ME!).

Jingle Bell Rock!

Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell Rock!

One-week post activation and what a world of jingle bells and many more sounds abound! In my last blog, I shared about ACTIVATION day and my perception of sound initially.

Activation Day!

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Do you remember how you felt when you were a little kid and could not wait for Santa?

Post Op Thankfulness

With the Thanksgiving Holiday around the corner, I want to share how grateful and thankful that I am. It has been a challenging few weeks as you will see, but all in all, I am grateful for many things.

Game Day – CI Surgery Success!

In my last blog I talked a lot about Game Day Anxiety and this certainly was something that I had high emotions about. The day before surgery, I actually felt less anxiety and more at peace with my decision to move forward.

Game Day Anxiety!

I can imagine that each of us have had “a big game” day. Whether is it a championship sporting event, a musical performance, a key note presentation, or any other big day; these events naturally bring about a mix of anxiety and excitement.

Roller Coasters

Less than 2 weeks away from surgery date! November is here and the countdown is real.

On the professional side, I know that this is the right decision for me. On the personal side, I am feeling anxious, nervous, excited, and scared.

Choices

Before I dig into this week’s topic, I just have to say, I cannot believe that November is less than a week away and the surgery date is less than 3 weeks away!

Appointment Day: Part 2

It is amazing when things happen at just the right time. Two days before my scheduled CI consultation appointment at Ohio State, I found out that I was nominated and selected to be a #HearStrong champion.
